What Is Wet Hire and How Does It Work?

Wet hire is the full package: you hire both the machine and the operator together. You tell us the job, we bring the right gear and the right person to run it.

It suits most residential and light commercial jobs where you want the work done without managing a machine yourself. Excavation, trenching, soakwells, rock breaking, site levelling - all of it done under one hire rate.

Plant Hire Perth offers wet hire across the full fleet - Komatsu PC18, PC55 and PC138 excavators, Bobcat T450 and T590 skid steers, and the 8t Isuzu FVR tipper. One call to us and we work out which machine fits the job.

Our operators are Komatsu-trained fitters. If something plays up on site, they fix it themselves. No waiting on a third-party mechanic, no half-day stoppages mid-dig.

What You Are Responsible For on a Wet Hire

  • Safe site access with enough clearance for the machine selected
  • Locating and marking any underground services before we dig
  • Letting council or your surveyor know if works trigger approvals
  • Having a disposal plan for spoil, rock or demolished material

We Can Help with the Machine Selection

Not sure whether you need the 1.8t mini or the 5.5t mid-size? Tell us the job - side gate width, depth you need to dig, soil type - and we'll steer you to the right size. Getting this wrong wastes half the day.

Plant Hire Perth

Wet Hire vs Dry Hire: Which Option Suits You?

Wet Hire (Machine + Operator)

  • Operator included - no additional labour
  • Komatsu-trained fitter on site if anything plays up
  • Best for residential, tradespeople and non-operators
  • Operator manages machine health and site safety
  • Day rate is higher but covers all labour

Dry Hire (Machine Only)

  • You supply a licensed, competent operator
  • Cheaper day rate - you absorb labour cost
  • Best for earthmoving contractors with their own operators
  • You manage machine operation and safety
  • Delivery and collection still included in transport fee

Not Sure Which One?

Most homeowners and builders benefit from wet hire - an experienced operator on a tight Perth residential block saves time and avoids costly damage to retaining walls, pipes and fencing. Dry hire makes sense if you already have a ticketed operator on payroll.

Wet Hire Perth Questions

Wet hire means you hire the machine and the operator together. The hire company supplies both the equipment and a trained person to run it on your site for the agreed period.

Wet hire rates start from around $1,500 per day for a mini excavator up to $2,000 per day or more for the 13.8t. Transport is charged separately. Call us for a quote specific to your job and location.

We need safe site access, underground services located and marked, and a clear scope of the work. Spoil disposal is your responsibility unless we arrange cartage with our tipper.

Yes. The hydraulic hammer attachment is available on the Komatsu PC18 and PC55. Ask for it when you book - it needs to come out on the trailer with the machine.

We aim to be on site within 24 hours for most Perth metro jobs, subject to machine availability. Call us directly and we will find the earliest slot that works.
