What Is Dry Hire and Who Is It For?

Dry hire is straightforward. We deliver the plant to your site, you run it with your own operator, and we collect it when the hire period ends.

You manage the operation and we keep the machine reliable. It is the standard choice for anyone who runs plant as part of their day-to-day work.

It is the cost-effective option for earthmoving contractors and builders who already run ticketed operators. You get a well-maintained machine without the wet hire labour cost on top.

Every machine leaves our yard fully serviced and fuelled to start the day. If anything plays up on site, call us - our fitters are Komatsu-trained and sort it fast.

Who Dry Hire Suits Best

  • Earthmoving contractors with ticketed operators on the payroll
  • Builders needing a machine on site for an extended run
  • Landscapers who operate plant week in, week out
  • Tradies with a White Card who run machinery in their trade
  • Anyone supplementing their own fleet for a busy stretch

Dry Hire Needs a Competent Operator

Excavators and skid steers are notifiable plant under WA work health and safety law. Whoever runs the machine must be competent and hold the relevant high-risk work licence where required. If that is not sorted, ask us about wet hire instead.

Plant Hire Perth

Dry Hire vs Wet Hire: Which One Suits You?

Dry Hire (Machine Only)

  • Lower day rate - you absorb the labour
  • You supply a licensed, competent operator
  • Best for contractors running their own crews
  • You manage machine operation and site safety
  • Delivery and collection still handled by us

Wet Hire (Machine + Operator)

  • Operator included - no separate labour hire
  • Komatsu-trained fitter on site if anything plays up
  • Best for homeowners, builders and non-operators
  • The operator manages machine health and safety
  • Higher day rate, but every hour of labour is covered

Not Sure Which Way To Go?

If you have a ticketed operator ready, dry hire is the cheaper path. If you would rather an experienced hand ran the machine on a tight Perth block, wet hire saves time and avoids damage to fences, pipes and retaining walls. Call us and we'll point you the right way.

Delivery, Collection and Site Prep

We run two plant trailers and handle delivery and collection ourselves. Transport is charged on distance from our Perth metro yard, added as a flat line on your hire invoice for most inner and middle-ring suburbs.

What To Have Ready Before We Deliver

  • A clear access point wide enough for the trailer and machine
  • A firm, level spot to unload - soft sand or a steep drop causes grief
  • Overhead clearance flagged early - powerlines, pergolas, carports
  • Underground services located and marked before the machine digs

Damage Waiver Available

A damage waiver can be added to any dry hire to cover accidental machine damage during your hire period. Ask when you book. You will also need your own comprehensive cover in place as the hirer.

How Dry Hire Works, Step by Step

01

Call Us and Confirm

Give us your machine preference, hire dates, site address and the operator's details. We confirm availability and the transport cost on the spot.

02

Sign the Hire Agreement

A standard agreement covers machine condition on departure, the damage waiver option and return condition. We walk you through it before delivery.

03

Machine Delivered and Walked Over

We deliver, then go over controls, service hours and any quirks specific to that unit. You confirm the condition before we leave.

04

You Run the Job

Operate the machine through the agreed hire period. Call us any time - our fitters can usually talk you through a fix or get out fast.

05

Collection and Final Invoice

We collect on the agreed date and check the machine on return. The final invoice covers hire days plus transport.

Extending Mid-Hire Is Easy

Need the machine a few days longer? A quick call usually sorts it, as long as it is not booked out behind you. Weekly rates kick in and bring the daily cost down.

In Western Australia, excavators are notifiable plant. Operators must be competent and may need a high-risk work licence depending on the machine size and application. Check with WorkSafe WA if you are unsure.

The plant trailer is part of our delivery and collection service. We do not hire trailers separately - machines are always delivered and collected by us.

Call us. Our fitters are Komatsu-trained and can often diagnose and fix issues quickly over the phone or on site. Machine availability is our responsibility - we get the problem sorted or swap the machine if needed.
